I've been making a cake like to this for years. Information technology has a few differences though. Apply only 2/3 C h2o and 3/four C oil. Omit lemon extract. Bake in a bundt cake pan for xl minutes at 350. Use only 2T lemon juice for glaze. Coat after slightly cooled. This gives a much ameliorate cake to coat ration. Yummm!

I followed the directions to the letter of the alphabet and this cake was not good. I wondered near the lemon gelatin rather than pudding, but I used it. And then the "frosting" was like liquid. There is And then MUCH sugar in this recipe, it is about in puddles in the lesser of the pan -- the cake is wet from it. Someone tell me what I did wrong!

I fabricated this ane for a altogether and information technology got rave reviews. I used a fork to poke lots of holes in the block before covering w/ glaze. Followed another reviewers recommendation and added a dab of butter to the glaze, forth with some freshly grated lemon rind. Fresh squeezed lemon juice made it all the more than tasty. I call up this one is fifty-fifty meliorate the side by side 24-hour interval, moist and more lemony. Side by side time, I will make it the twenty-four hours before serving. Good & easy!

I'm giving this recipe four stars only b/c I made changes...it would be five stars otherwise. For those of you who idea the cake was a scrap too sweet, yous may desire to try using lemon flavored pudding mix instead of gelatin. I took a box of D.H. french vanilla cake mix and added four eggs, two/3 C oil, 1 C buttermilk (no h2o), and instead of lemon extract and gelatin I used the rind of one lemon, about iv Tbsp. of fresh juice, and well-nigh half a package of lemon-flavored pudding as well equally two heaping scoops of sour cream. This 'softened' the lemon flavor and didn't taste too sugariness. Lemon tends to dilate carbohydrate in whatsoever recipe, then I say to cut downwardly on the tartness in the cake and only keep the glaze really sweet. This was basically a lemon-flavored pudding/pound cake that was sooo moist and very expert with the simply lemon glaze on elevation.

Yummy. I did substitute lemon cake mix and doubled the glaze/frosting because I wanted a more intense lemon season. Anybody loved it.

I love lemon cake and am somewhat of a lemon cake snob. Must exist lemony with right mix of sweet/tart. No heavy icing. MUST be moist. I would love to exist able to make everything from scratch but and so we would never eat around here! This cake is AWESOME!!! I always get a little worried when trying a new recipe in case it is all hype and doesn't deliver. This delivers. Don't know why anyone would charge per unit it not good unless they did something wrong. Of grade I fabricated some slight changes. No extract - fresh lemon juice (4T). Used the DH Classic Xanthous mix, instant lemon pudding. I was a little worried it wouldn't be lemony plenty when I tested the batter. Non to worry. Also for the icing, used just the lemon juice and confec. saccharide (mix well) and added lots of pulp and about i-2t of zest. It is a runny icing so SLOWLY drizzle. Fabricated it the nighttime before as a bundt cake for an afternoon coming together the side by side day. Then MOIST. Very lemony. The icing seeped into the cake and amazing. It's all gone! I recollect that I would try it with lemon cake mix to encounter if that made it even better only non sure. It pretty well rocks! Did I say I liked the cake?? Don't know why the icing in the photo on the site is so white though. Mine didn't expect that mode. You should give this a try.

I would make this again. I didn't have and lemon excerpt so I substituted the juice of one lemon and added a fleck of grated lemon rind to the cake mix. It turned out very moist and lemony! I would brand this again.

This Lemon block is soo moist and delicious, only i left out the lemon excerpt and used 3/iv cups of lemon juice. Use cool whip for the topping. to decorate put sliced lemons at the corners. Yous'll beloved it even more the original.

Our whole family loves this recipe! Nice lemon flavor, and nice and calorie-free too.

I don't use cake mixes except for this cake. I got the recipe from my MIL years ago and information technology's been a family favorite since and then. I do employ the lemon zest finely grated from the lemons in the topping and add them to the cake batter for an boosted lemon boost. What I dear about this cake is the sheen the jello gives to the cake crumb. It'southward so pretty and almost tranluscent looking. Delicious and quick to put together. It'south great as a base for strawberries or blueberry compote ladled over a slice with some whipped cream dolloped on top!
04/22/2013
This is the recipe that I used while my children were growing up...The simply Variation that I made is to adjust the oil & h2o, two/iii c. of water & 3/four c. of oil...Everything else is the same, (eggs, jello , & block mix)..I Dearest to make this in a ix x thirteen cake pan, & after the cake is cooled somewhat, I poke holes with a fork, in the block, & then cascade Glaze (omit lemon extract, just lemon juice) over the top....I and then refrigerate it so it is a Refreshing Addition on a Hot Summer Twenty-four hours!!...Perfect to take to all of your Family Get-Togethers & Potlucks...Make sure that you accept the recipe forth, considering you volition definitely be asked for it!!...

Easy to put together and bakes up beautifully! I followed the recipe as stated above and broiled using a greased ten" tube pan. Done in l minutes. Used ane cup powdered saccharide, 2.5 T lemon juice plus 2 drops natural lemon extract. Using a bamboo skewer to poke the block on the top, the block was glazed while hot. Moist and yummy! Thanks!
05/10/2012
I inverse information technology and it was cracking..probably great as information technology, but, worked with what I had. I used black cherry jello and omitted the lemon excerpt. Followed residual of block recipe. On coat..I only used ii tbsp of lemon juice..that was plenty. I poked holes all in the peak of the cake before drizzling on. This was very practiced. Probably expert with other flavors of jello besides..I am going to try more than.
05/20/2005
Growing upwards this was ane of my favorite desserts. My family calls it Lemon Suprise Cake. We too use lemon block mix. If you want to make information technology extra fantastic, let the cake cool until information technology sets upward a chip (xv-20mins) and so poke holes all over with a fork or skewer and pour the coat all over (I double the glaze). It soaks into the cake and makes it even more moist and delicious!
01/17/2011
I followed the recipe except for I substituted lemon pudding instead of lemon gelatin and I added some lemon zest to the icing. The block was very moist and flavorful. Information technology was gobbled upwardly before the night was over. I program on making it again very soon!
08/22/2011
My married man dies for this cake - information technology's so yummy! I added 1 cup of frozen cranberries and the zest of one lemon to the batter before blistering. Makes a delicious and low-cal dessert!
ten/10/2010
I substituted a minor box of instant lemon pudding for the lemon gelatin and added a minor amount of lemon juice for the lemon excerpt. I only used 1 1/2 T of lemon juice for the frosting and then finished up the frosting with milk (I added just enough milk for information technology to become frosting). Information technology was very moist and merely lemonly enough west/out condign a cake that has lemon taking over.
09/15/2005
This is an old recipe, but I noticed the glaze recipe here is missing two Tablespoons of melted butter that my recipe has. Effort it with the melted butter, I can't imagine it without.
11/08/2005
Excellent cake! My married man can't stop raving near it.
02/03/2002
I tried this recipe and loved it. It is very easy & quick to brand. A real crowd pleaser!
03/10/2012
This is adept; however, I beloved dearest lemon/tart desserts...and then I added the juice of one lemon and the zest to a Lemon block mix. Omitted the extract and apply the juice of 2 fresh lemons the zest to the powder sugar for the glaze. Huge hitting. Smashing recipe and yes the lemon jello works.
11/17/2004
Piece of cake and succulent. This lemon cake e'er turns out. I take been making this for a while and anyone that likes lemon likes this cake. I purchase the lemon cake mix and drop the extract because lemon extract isn't used for annihilation else in this business firm. I as well use fresh lemon in the coat. DELISH!
01/01/2010
This is a great recipe..but the version I take used is a tad dissimilar...while the block is still warm you should poke information technology with a fork all over the top..THEN...SLOWLY pour icing on and some sees into the cake..always a family unit favorite !!
01/30/2010
Information technology was moist and succulent.
08/01/2007
This is luscious! I made it in a 9 ten 13" cake pan and information technology cruel in the middle, but was still delicious! Adjacent fourth dimension I'll use a bundt pan. The icing was and so yummy on the block, because the carbohydrate crusted upward a bit and added a really great texture to the cake. I'll definitely be making this again.
02/21/2010
Perhaps the worst cake I've ever made. It stuck to the pan, came out in pieces and the icing and coat take 5 cups of conf. sugar -- way too sweet. The texture is like gravel and its dry. It uses 8 egg yolks and no egg white and then it lacks a soft consistency. There isn't a single thing virtually this recipe I liked.
08/17/2007
Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious. I reccomend this to people who similar tart things but it was succulent.
11/17/2004
Like shooting fish in a barrel and succulent. This lemon cake always turns out. I have been making this for a while and anyone that likes lemon likes this cake. I buy the lemon block mix and drop the extract because lemon extract isn't used for anything else in this house. I also utilize fresh lemon in the glaze. DELISH!
05/24/2011
Read reviews and made some changes. I don't ordinarily use boxes for cakes but I was in a bustle to whip up a treat. I added lemon zest and used pudding mix! I also increased the lemon excerpt! I had some fresh blueberries so I added them. The kids made fresh whipped foam to put on top!! My husband made a face when he saw I was using a boxed block, but after dinner I defenseless him in the kitchen stealing another bite! So I would recommend this block in a pinch! Thanks for the recipe and reviewers advice!
eleven/30/2002

09/05/2006
This was easy and the sense of taste was awesome. As suggested, I made information technology a 24-hour interval ahead, doubled the coat and added the melted butter. I remember I'll endeavor a bundt pan next time simply to arrive more than festive. Great recipe. Thanks for sharing!
08/24/2006
Delicious and easy. I would give information technology vi stars if I could! Don't modify a matter follow the recipe exactly. I doubled the frosting too.
05/04/2009
Very moist and lemony. I think 4 tbsp lemon juice in the glaze was also much. I wanted a slightly thicker glaze that would stay on the cake meliorate. Oh and I didn't take lemon extract and so I substituted with lemon juice.
04/06/2007
This is swell, I love lemon, and the lemony flavour in this was wonderful! Bully for a busy day as well equally no cooling time required before frosting.
01/07/2010
My mother used to make this, I was looking for the recipe and made it this weekend, it was gone in two days, I don't why someone would say this is too sweetness, perfect rest of lemon and sweet, cracking! Substitued lemon juice for extract, 1/iv cup.
03/26/2011
Excellen and flavor of this lemon cake. I like a tangy lemon flavor and this is information technology. My grandma used to make a cake very like to this in a 9x13 pan, she topped it with the glaze and and then cream cheese frosting, it was amazing! This is very similar to the lemon cake at Starbucks.
07/31/2006
This was excellent! The tartness of the icing mixed with the sweetness of the cake is just succulent!
03/29/2007
This cake WAS very easy, only it wasn't as practiced as I'd hoped. It was moist plenty, merely overall information technology was kind of bland. Not worth the oil/fat content. Possibly with applesauce and actress lemon juice instead....
05/06/2013
Like so many others, I modified this recipe to our tastes. I did use the yellow block mix, simply I used 3/4 loving cup fresh lemon juice in identify of the water, 2 T fresh lemon zest and 1/2 t of excerpt. 1/2 cup oil and i/4 loving cup greek yogurt in place of all oil. Thanks for the easy, versatile recipe.
03/29/2005
I made this for Easter, and it is wonderful! I wondered if a yellowish cake mix and lemon gelatin mix would exist an odd combination, but with the glaze, it was very lemony. It is even more moist the next few days. My family loved it!
01/17/2015
I fabricated this exactly as directed, and it didn't come out of the pan. I accept a overnice not-stick fluted pan, and I fifty-fifty used not-stick spray to be actress sure. When I finally did remove information technology, the advent was ruined, and then the cake itself crumbled. It was not dry out, nonetheless information technology was still crumbly. It was received well enough, but no ane raved about it, and very few people finished their slice.
05/11/2010
I used a loving cup of coconut rum instead of water and decreased the oil to one.ii loving cup - the results were amazing!
07/02/2009
This is one of my all time favorite, go-to recipes. Its easy and succulent. I'thou actually known within my group of friends as having the all-time lemon cake so information technology often gets requested for parties and birthdays.
07/12/2009
This cake is fantastic. I made it as written except taking a suggestion mentioned numerous times in reviews of using a lemon cake mix instead of yellow. This tastes near like fresh lemon confined. It is so moist and just sweet and tart enough. Delicious!
06/01/2009
Excellent recipe! Made this with my daughter terminal nighttime and she is very happy with the results. :)
01/xix/2010
Pretty Good and Sweet I used lemon cake mix and half of the icing.
12/13/2006
Nice and piece of cake and has a wonderful flavor.
eleven/22/2010
A friend of ours had had surgery and I took this cake every bit a get well offering. My married man is non a lemon lover, and then I was skeptical. Everyone loved it!!! It was piece of cake to brand and took no time at all. Since we left the rest there, he requested I make i for home. Ii enthusiastic thumbs upward!
05/xix/2008
excellent flavor. The frosting was a lilliputian to runny. It ran off the cake and onto the counter. But in one case it dried it was wonderful.
04/03/2006
This cake was very juicy...all of the flavors combined well! It reminds me of my slap-up-grandmother'south lemon cake!
03/29/2005
I've been looking for a recipes to make a great lemon cake from scratch for awhile, and have not come up with anything shut to being this adept. Moist, very lemony, and easy. No one volition ever know it'due south from a cake mix.
03/03/2013
My kids beloved this. I've made it several times over the past few years - information technology's quick and easy when y'all need a potluck dessert. I merely use 2T lemon juice for the topping - otherwise, information technology would be too runny, but I've only made it in a bundt, runny might be fine in a 9X13.
08/ten/2010
We weren't crazy about this. I'thousand lamentable.
06/28/2008
This recipe was really good, but I did become lazy and but used lemon frosting, instead of making the glaze. Nevertheless a actually good cake. Will make it again and make the glaze the next time around.
xi/thirteen/2000
Good but not a family favorite.
04/17/2009
Made this for Easter with lemon cake mix and lemon pudding mix. It was moist and delicious.
02/28/2009
y'all guys don't laugh at me but i didn't read the recipe right and i put all the ingredients in the cake using a lemon block mix and the bunt block fell in; simply information technology was the most fantastic lemony block i ever had. i made it again and utilise less than a 1/3 loving cup of confectioners sugar in it and 2 circular pans it didn't autumn in but it wasn't fluffy but it was still fantastic. oh yeah i used pudding both times and not gelatin. adjacent time i'll try it with the gelatin. this is a keeper!
10/27/2006
I dearest this block! (Equally do my co-workers and boyfriend.)THe only changes I fabricated were, I used a lemon box block, and I didn't have whatever lemon extract, so I squeezed a bit of lemon juice in the batter.
10/17/2010
Don's BD cake
08/28/2009
This cake is a favorite of our family. My mother made this for years and her recipe has a few additions which make all the difference, Sub apricot nectar for the water and separate eggs, beat egg whites and fold in to make a light and intensely favored lemon cake. Wonderful!
06/24/2006
easy and elementary and tasty!
12/xxx/2010
Delicious, completely unhealthy. This is my fellow's favorite. I make more more icing then the recipe calls for to put on superlative.
12/06/2004
A SUPER-SUPER cake! I have made this for over 40 years and have never felt the demand to change anything. Lemon block mix does audio interesting, though!
01/twenty/2008
One of the well-nigh lemon-moist I've fabricated love the frosting I doubled the frosting.
01/05/2008
I accept made this cake often from my sister'southward recipe. We apply lemon cake mix and omit extract. We made it with raspberry flavored jello this evening and my son asked if I could make it for his birthday. E'er a striking.
07/07/2004
Unproblematic and delicious. You can't go incorrect with this recipe.
03/03/2010
I used this for the cake - I used one pkg for lemon jello-and no lemon extract (didn't have whatever), just I did have a real lemon- and I squeezed all of the juice into the batter along with the zest of the lemon. VERY succulent!
03/11/2008
Hate to say this but I didn't care for this cake. I loved the coat though. So sad, I was totally jazzed upwardly just and so disappointed. There is another lemon cake recipe from this site I wanted to try only I didn't accept whatsoever apricot nectar on manus and then I chose this one. At least other reviewers are enjoying this cake.
08/26/2003
The lemon cake was an instant striking with my family and it was easy to set. I used lemon cake mix in place of regular cake mix.
12/xi/2015
With this recipe being old be aware that cake mixes are smaller at present as are jello mixes. I used the smaller yellow cake mix and the lemon pudding mix and it came out great! I also used more real lemon juice instead of the extract. Volition definitely make over again.
07/14/2008
Moist? No. Greasy? Yes. Easy recipe, and I can see how many people would dearest it, but it is not one I enjoyed.
12/31/2006
This cake was delicious, it's my hubby's favorite!! Thanks for recipe:)
03/29/2005
This block was awesome! Made it for Easter and anybody loved it. To the reviewer who said the recipe needs to say temp and how long to broil... Information technology says bake according to bundle directions. You should read something all the way through and really make it earlier you review it unfairly.
02/01/2004
This has been a family favorite for years...it's always a big hitting with guests too and it's very like shooting fish in a barrel to make. We highly recommend it!
02/11/2012
Piece of cake and succulent!
11/23/2015
I've made this the same mode for years except omitted the lemon extract & used mix of fresh lemon & bottled lemon juice for a more natural lemon taste. The other thing I did was to grate the lemon & put1/two in the mix & remainder in the glaze. On this block photo, please notation, I added a lemon pie filling over the coat. This made block very rich & I was able to serve more people by slicing them smaller for a political party. I got rave reviews!
11/12/2014
made this recipe for my bridge guild and they all had raved nearly how skilful it was.
04/22/2016
Used a Lemon cake mix and the 2/three c water plus the other cake ingredients. Did leave out the lemon flavouring. Likewise for the drizzle used only 2Tbsp of the fresh lemon juice. Cheers to the reviews for this. Dearest information technology and hubby loved too. Thanks for the recipe. Will try information technology with other flavours of jello .
10/05/2010
I besides received this from my mother in police. Notwithstanding I boil the water and add the gelatin, mix well and cool then add together to the cake mix, oil, eggs, and extract. This is EXCELLENT!!!!
02/25/2019
My kids are always my strictest critics and this cake was almost devoured in one sitting. Great recipe that I'll use once again.
01/17/2018
Easy to make, moist, and full of flavor. Not too lemony, and better than simply manifestly plain vanilla cake. I added jam in between layers for extra goodness. Yummy.
10/x/2018
I had 20 lb bucket of Deli filling so I didn't measure out out exactly 21 Oz I put roughly 3 cups in and it didn't broil to a springform consistency it kind of got bubbly so I think I put in too much filling or used the wrong form of filling.
09/28/2010
I'm a little dissapointed in this recipe because it has rave reviews. Slighty better than the lemon cake out of a a box but I'm not quite certain what all of the excitement is near considering as said earlier it has a distinct box cake look & sense of taste. Likewise the glaze is extremely watery as written and I am sure that the cake volition be soggy in the forenoon =(
08/20/2004
Very Like shooting fish in a barrel! I also used a lemon cake mix and skipped the lemon excerpt. Used fresh lemon juice in the glaze and served with fresh whipped cream. Tasty!
09/18/2015
I was very disappointed with the glaze! It was totally runny and soaked right into the block. A lot of information technology ended up covering the plate. I wonder if it had also much lemon juice. Another reviewer mentioned using just half the lemon juice. If I make this over again, I would try that. Very like shooting fish in a barrel recipe. I used lemon cake every bit I did non have lemon extract. Cake tasted good.
12/22/2016
I dear this block. I followed the review from the cake snob and it turned out awesome!
11/04/2008
absolutely my favorite! I used lemon cake and didn't add lemon extract and I made extra frosting..turned out wonderful..volition brand this over again!
06/06/2010
LOVED this. Brought information technology to our Vino Lodge and it was a HUGE hitting. I used only 2/three c water and kept the excerpt. I added i loving cup chopped walnuts to bottom of bundt pan, broiled at 350 for xl mins. Allow it cool for xxx mins then poked holes used 1 c powdered sugar due west 2T lemon juice and zest. Also added two containers fresh raspberries in center and around edges. Information technology was beautiful and extremely moist and refreshing. Great recipe for potluck or party.
07/18/2007
A bit dry. The coat was actually delicious.
04/15/2019
I will most definitely make this block again. I added a piffling scrap of lemon juice to the batter as well as 3/4 teaspoons of lemon extract. Very moist, fluffy, and flavorful.
02/01/2020
Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious. You can make your own yellow cake also instead of a box
04/27/2018
This was PERFECT! Never will need another recipe, for this Easy Lemon Cake once more! Thank you!! Do not omit anything. Its Perfect just the fashion it is.
07/04/2009
Used to brand a like recipe as a kid just since then I had forgotten how...fabricated this recipe for fathers mean solar day, and my husband virtually finished information technology all by himself.
